Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is an infertility treatment that is often called artificial insemination. In this procedure, the woman is injected with sperms. Healthy sperms are separated by semen wash and the semen sample is then deposited into the uterus by a thin plastic catheter introduced through the cervix. It is performed in the following situations:
Mild male factor infertility
Women who have problems with their cervical mucus
Couples with unexplained infertility
Sometimes the woman is also treated with medicines that stimulate ovulation before IUI.
